15 years in the industry
My history on a roof goes back further than my official roofing career. I was eight years old the first time I was up on a roof, passing shingles up to my dad on his job sites.
By the time I was twelve, I earned my very first real paycheck doing roofing labor—a crisp hundred-dollar bill at the end of a long day that made me feel like the richest kid in Alberta. From that day on, the trades were in my blood.
I grew up right here in Wainwright, Alberta and this community is where I still call home today. My roots run deep across East-Central Alberta.
My path in the trades wasn't a straight line, but every step brought me right back to where I belong. After a few careers changes, including working as a railway conductor for CN rail, I eventually went to SAIT in Calgary to complete my ticket, officially earning my Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter certification in July 2018.
Over the last fifteen-plus years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on everything from massive commercial building envelopes in Calgary—like ice cream freezers and the Coca-Cola plant—to building custom residential homes from the ground up right here at home through my contracting company, Compass Carpentry.
Through all of it, roofing was always my favorite part of the build. Taking a home with a worn-out, leaking roof and transform it into something beautiful that protects a family for decades, is a great feeling that never gets old.
Roofing is a job you either completely hate or absolutely love. I love it.
I started Journeyman Roofing because I wanted to bring true Red Seal standards to residential roofing. During my time at SAIT I was taught "The building code is just the bare minimum required by law—it isn't the standard for quality." That it the principle Journeyman Roofing is built on. We aren't "shingle slappers" rushing to cut corners. We understand the full building envelope, from proper attic ventilation and straight lines to water protection that lasts long after the warranty expires. When we work on your home we take the time to do it right.
